Hanna Lucey Poem by Francis Duggan

Hanna Lucey

She was in her seventies when I was a young man
And she is still around today her's is a lengthy span
The evergreen Hanna Lucey the late Jim the Doctor's wife
And the mother of the likeable Seamus has been granted a long life.

Such a kind and loving lady in her there is so much good
She is one of those people who would help you if she could
One hundred years of living that seems such a long time
It has been seventy years or longer since she was in her prime.

'Tis said that the reaper in his diary for each of us has pencilled in a date
But the grim one for young Hanna has a bit longer to wait
And though death doubtless for all of us one day a certain fate
For Hanna there will be more birthdays for to celebrate.

Of stories of such great longevity we do not often hear
And to this grand lady of Millstreet we will raise our glasses of cheer
One hundred years of living is surely worth a boast
And the marvellous Hanna Lucey is one worthy of a toast.
