Have You Poem by Francis Duggan

Have You

Have you done your one good deed for the day
To help somebody gone out of your way
Helped the old lady from you three doors down
For to do her shopping drove her into Town?

On the train home from work did you forfeit your seat
To the tired looking lady who had aching feet?
She looked more tired and far older than you
And to give her your seat seemed the right thing to do.

Have you walked the dog for the old bloke next door
And brought him his groceries from the super-store?
Though he cannot afford to pay you money since on a pension he live
Now you can receive since you know how to give.

Have you for the day done your one good deed
Helped some poor person who of help were in need?
On the laws of karma you are one who believe
And when you can give you will surely receive.
