He Drank Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

He Drank

he drank and drank
and shouted loud: Hurrah!
in his own tongue:
alone he sate and saw and
smiled
the sea before him stood and
underneath the rock bound
cliff
as a king he felt drinking
the water
drinking
drinking
till round he saw the fading
sun turning
and the clouds and bay arms
turning
turning
turning
smiled he at first
rose like a child
but failed his feet
and fell
and he moved not
and he drank not
