He Looked Like You Poem by Linda Harnett

He Looked Like You

Today I saw a man; he looked like you,
He crossed my path and stopped me in my track,
That old familiar feeling; out the blue,
I stared at him and found him looking back,

Confused, it wasn’t you, how could it be?
This stranger, for a moment, brought you near,
Yet once again I felt my heart run free,
And disappointment mingled with my fear,

He looked like you but didn’t have your smile,
The crooked grin, the welcome in your eyes,
And though I haven’t seen you for a while,
This stranger had no power to hypnotise,

He looked like you, the man I saw today,
He looked at me and carried on his way.
