He Said Poem by Alyssa Wanii

He Said

He said I was his close friend.
He asked me to the dance and the movies.
At the dance, we danced, and got closer.
At the movies, we watched, and got closer.
He was nervous and so was I, but with the support of our friends, we got over being nervous.
At the movies we kissed.

He said I was his girl friend, and that he was my boy friend.
We got along, but becoming boy and girl friends changed him.
Instead of acting the way we acted before being close friends, he was more quieter, and less interested.
With some investigation, my close girl friend and I figured out why this was.
He said “I don’t really like her, I only dated her because I was dared.”
With this I didn’t cry or sulk, I got back at him.
At the right moment, when his friends were with him, I broke up with him.
I said “We have to stop this relationship here, right now, because I can’t got out with a guy who only does things if he’s dared to. But answer one question for me, why did you do keep this up for the longest time? ”
He said “I don’t know.”, looked down, and then laughed his laugh.
Walking away I felt bad, like I just lost my boy friend and a close friend.
But with the help of my close girl friend I was able to realize, It wasn’t that I felt bad about losing him, it was because I wanted him as a close friend and boy friend.
Knowing I’m not the one you suffered bad today, I laugh, and smirk, and think,
“He’s the one who suffered, and lost a close friend, and a girl friend.”
