He Used To Catch Fish But Now He Goes To The Market Poem by Ted Sheridan

He Used To Catch Fish But Now He Goes To The Market

Rating: 5.0

There is a man____
whose woebegone heart aches forlorn
His true love's life was like a revolving door
there enter so many willing occupants
this poor man is being trampled alive
by all the usual suspects and vicissitudes
when one is in love with a woman
who will prostitute her love for a price...
This love he feels inside his heart
is pining for so much more
he finds his finances to be a trifle bit short
so he takes chances on the lottery,
and always wins more than he loses
Yet......when she finally calls his number
she then sets him free after fleecing him
of both his money and his dignity.
Where he finds a chair and spends his life
crying tears of both whiskey and beer.
He considers exiting the same way he came in
his step is staggered and confused (probably the whiskey)
his life holds no future, hope or promise
his empty glass holds only his love's demise
demon spirits are intoxicating every thought
he recalls the color of her lips
he forgets her kisses filled with sorrow......
There is a man....
who has become an Island....
off the coast of Canal Street and Atlantic Blvd....
He never answers his phone...so
I hope he gets this message in a bottle.
