He Was Always There Poem by Tressa Carliss

He Was Always There

I died one day and went to heaven.
And that's when we came face to face.
He could tell I had something on my mind
'My child why are you sad, you are in now' he said.

'Father', I replied 'I know you were there when I went to school.'
'I know you were there when I got married.'
'I know you were there when Angel was born.'
'I know you were there when I was promoted.'

'Of course I was my child, but that does not bother you.'
'What does my child'? he asked with a caring face.
Unable to explain he told me to start from the beginning.
And so I said 'You were never there when I needed you the most.'

He looked at me and said ' Dear child what do you mean.'
My reply was, 'Where were you when that man took advantage of me? '
'Where were you when I was looking for my parents? '
'Why did you let that man do what he wanted with me? '

'Why didn't you take me from that horrible place? '
He looked and me and gave me a hug. 'Follow me child', he said.
We went to this wall that showed the things that he had done.
He picked the one that contained my place.

'My child when that man was on you, your spirit was with me.'
'I was guiding you to your parents, there were somethings you needed to learn first.'
'When he took advangtage of you I held you in my arm.'
'Every night you went to sleep I took you with me.'

'You see my child, It is easy to know I am there when the good is all you see. But to know that I am there during the bad is impossible.'
'For you need the most help when you feel like giving up.'
'I held you then and I am holding you now.'
I didn't understand what he meant then but I do now.

Through my accomplishments he walked with me.
Through my struggles he carried me.
When I thought I was going through the pain
It was him taking my pain as his own.

I suddenly woke up in the hospital bed with my husband next to me
He explain what happen; I was in a car accident
And I should have died in it
That's when I realize he was always there.
