Health Reform Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Health Reform

Health Care reform was top of the agenda.
Postwar Britain made it so.
Oh the glory of the National Health story
Still on our minds from so long ago.
'The Appointed Day, July forty-eight'
Aneurin Bevan, and Labour Party friends
Were determined to build a new Welfare State
For doctors, dentists, opticians and such
All to come under the Government's clutch.
The important Health Service Act of the day
explained everything in a memorable way.
And continuing Health Care efficiency
Is most certainly here to stay.
