Heart On Sleeve Poem by Lil Sutton

Heart On Sleeve

Not for you will I wear my heart on my sleeve
Not for you
I gave every ounce of my being to you…
It wasn’t enough to keep you
You haunt my heart and mind.
When we parted I felt empty
When you made your choice you broke me

No sleep graces your tired soul tonight.
See the dark turn into day.
Keep your beliefs close baby,
Stay strong.
Don’t doubt how you feel.

For you my heart is no longer on my sleeve
I’m trying to be strong and learn to let go of what I now know I never truly had
A love that was not fully reciprocated
Passion one sided
For you I will wear my heart on my sleeve no more

Twist and turn to escape the pain.
Pain that returns to you time and time again.
Hold your head high and guard your heart.
I use to wear it on my sleeve.
Now life has taught me to hide it.

Very emotional writing. The experience of love can leave us with a million beautiful memories, but also a million painful scars. I love this poem, keep on writing.
