Hell Bound Poem by Tiff Murphy

Hell Bound

Descending into darkness,
Trapped by my own insecurities,
All thought of reason leaves me,
He's the one I want,
The air that I breathe,
The need is too strong,
So tired of holding on,
Reaching out but our fingers cannot touch,
Speaking out but he cannot hear me,
Listening to him scream and scream
Lightning bolts bouncing off the walls,
Into my chest,
He does not notice,
He does not care,
Slipping, sliding to a place where his anger can't reach,
Trapped without a voice,
To speak for myself,
Huddled over like a coward,
So afraid of his words,
Too afraid of his touch,
Apologizing over and over again,
Please forgive,
Watching tears streak his face,
Dragging me down,
Deeper and deeper until I drown,
Duck and bury my head,
I can't be deceived again,
But I know it's the same fight that I can't win,
Eventually he'll win,
Next time,
Things won't change,
Kicking and screaming,
Clawing,
Struggling,
Just to be taking down to hell again,
Thinking,
It's my fault,
I'm the one that gave in.
