Here, She Lies Broken Poem by Samuel Obono Jr

Here, She Lies Broken

Here she lied
broken
on bare earth
face against the sun
weak
eyes slightly open
as hot tears finds freedom
lost
in a world not her own
yet her heart remains at home
in her eyes i see
the loneliness of her soul
the cries of many children
her world on her shoulders

A hoe on her left
cutlass on her right
bruised by life
her beauty
buried under the earth
for a harvest to come
through her feet
you can see the world
how well she had walked it
her face
though she wears no smile
but you can tell of her love
and though she utters no word
her spirits groans
for Strength
strength to stand
and fight
the battles of life
not for her own freedom
but for us
her children
