Hero Poem by Pat Zantello

Hero

Rating: 4.5

I'll carry this flag
to the grave if I must
It's the only flag I trust

When I come home
So damn proud of me
All they see
Medals...
Not scars

All I gave was everything
and yet you ask for more?

I stood by that flag
and watched them send away
I stand here today
Wishing I was away

A folded flag
A purple heart
Can you not see
What war has done to me?
