Heroin Eyes Poem by Sally DeSmet Trueblood

Heroin Eyes

Rating: 5.0

I cannot find this once-beautiful girl through her heroin eyes,
Her eyes are drawn to the dancing poison,
The streams of light are growing dim as evil shadows cast,
To shroud the glow of heaven.
It rapes the soul of a life well-lived,
For a desolate abyss that shames the walls of hell,
And I cannot stop you.
Nothing works, heroin grips hard,
Squeezing the life out of you as it laughs at the
People that try to help you.
Heroin grips hard and plays to win,
A leech sucking the sounds of life from you,
So the only sound you hear is the sound of evil.
Heroin plays to win.
And looking through those heroin eyes,
Is squeezing the remnants of life left in me,
Taken hostage by the evil of heroin,
And I don’t know if I will see you again,
Without those heroin eyes.
And through the malaise of helplessness,
I pray to see that girl again,
Free from the heroin eyes.
