Heroine Poem by Nicole Vincent

Heroine

As I walk down the dark unlit path
I try not to think about what lurks,
Lurks behind that shadowy veil.
I try not think of the teeth and the claws.
And of what those monsters would like to do.
That they would like to tear me to pieces,
Gnaw on my bones an drink my blood.

They slither and laugh
Knowing that I am alone,
That no one will come.
For am I not just the damsel in distress?
Waiting for my knight in shining armor,
To come and rescue me, save me,
From the dark... But they don't know.

They don't know
That I'll always be alone,
That there is no knight.
Because I am the only light in the dark,
I am the heroine, the rescuer.
Neither tooth nor claw shall hurt me,
Because in the end, I will always win.
