Hilbert's Infinite Hotel (Sort Of Limerick) Poem by Kevin Patrick

Hilbert's Infinite Hotel (Sort Of Limerick)

Never check in at Hilbert's Infinite Hotel
Its bound to exert a thought provoking spell
The rooms always double
causing room service trouble
Its the prime example of set theory from hell

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The Infinite Hotel is a paradox of infinite set theory that goes like this

there is a hotel that has an infinite number of rooms that are occupied, then an infinite number of new arrivals come causing everyone to shift room double there number so guest in room 1 move to 2
guess in room 2 go to 4 guess in room 4 go to 8 guess in room 8 go to 16 and so on.

I thought it was a cool concept.

lol, if Im a glass half empty I say the latter, but it goes for both, for every new group of people, there are an added group of rooms, which means the people in the rooms have to move over into the next room to accommodate the new group, there's a good short vid youtube that really gives insight into the craziness of the paradox.

I know of this paradox. Nicely crafted Limerick. Infinitely entertaining. : -)

Thank you Kelly I wrote it to remember the concept. I like trying to mix math, science and art
