Holidays, Brolly Days Poem by C Richard Miles

Holidays, Brolly Days

Holidays are brolly days,
When soaking summer showers
Begin to drown
Some Cornish town
And thunder on for hours.

Holidays are trolley days
With duty-free delights.
We’d rather ski,
Swim in the sea,
Than wait for cancelled flights.

Holidays are collie days
Whilst walking with the dog
Commuters care
To catch fresh air
Escaping London’s smog.

Holidays are holly days
When Christmas comes to cheer.
But we despise
Those garish ties
They give us every year.
Holidays are bolly days
In Mediterranean restos
But soon spag bol
Begins to pall
And we are sick of pesto.

Holidays are Golly! Days:
Exhilarating scenery
Provokes such thrills
When lakes and hills
Exhibit glorious greenery.

Holidays are folly days
As credit cards are bandied,
Whilst those who mean
To shun sunscreen
Emerge sun-scorched, sun branded!

But….

Holidays are jolly days
Permitting pampered pleasure;
We never say,
“Just go away:
We’ve had our fill of leisure! ”
