Holy Water Poem by James Edwards

Holy Water

Tonight I should be dreaming
But the water’s much too fast
My mind is now a streaming
with questions never asked.

A friend of faith once sung
Religion shall never be spoken
Among ears and virgin tongues
Only demons be awoken.

But I do not understand
Why this should be so true
For isn’t it this land
That makes me different than you?

It is only in our error
That we can not listen
The breaking of liar’s lair
Should only free the wisdom

But the people are so scared
To wake up in a world
Where the Gods touch upon
The likes of a virgin girl

And a child will be born
Like all children before
Crying from the womb
With the search of something more

Yet, I will not be the fool
Who reads truth from a stone
For truth should be found
In ourselves, with hearts unworn

For I can no longer see
The point of my fathers,
So maybe this is why
I can not sleep in this water.
