Hope Poem by Michelle Hanes

Hope

Rating: 3.0

You see it in the distance
You reach, but it's just out
of your grasp
You want it but it still disappears
The emptiness, it left behind
mimics your heart
Lonely, cold, empty...

You wonder what it was but
cannot remember but the name
is on the tip of your tongue
You start to say it but
can't finish the word...
You wake up

You see it in the distance
You reach but it's just out
of your grasp
You take a step and is so
close, but it seems to move
away from your touch

You kept walking toward it
until it stops moving
You walk up to it but
there is no ground
You jump, touch it
but it disappears
You fall
You wake up

You see it in the distance
You decide to ignore it and
think of other things, it
comes closer, you look and
it backs up
You wait until its behind
You then grab it

You hold it in your hands
It feels warm as if it
was full of life
Your heart mimics the
feeling and soon your whole
body feels it
As soon as it reaches you brain
You wake up

In the instant of waking
up, the word comes to
your mind and you say
it the minute your eyes
flutter open
You realize that, that's
what you've been seeing
all those nights, how
it made you full of it
and empty without it

You realize how if you
weren't watching out for
it, it would come to
you, you realize
wide awake that
it was
