Long, long this pain has been
With its relentless instruction
The imperfections are revealed
For its lessons are a soul torn
Life the chamber of its affliction
None are spared the shackles
My own portion far from lacking
Bitter its taste, course its touch
A smothering of the spark
A dampening of the spirit
A deadening of the will
Cherished innocence long ago lost
Naive childhood a cruel deception
Pain the road I have traveled
Pain my closest companion
Pain from where have you come
Pain to what end are you leading
Surely yours is not the final say
Hope for me?

Lovely depiction of lingering hardship and deplorable situations which many people face on daily bases, well articulated and insightfully penned in poetic diction with conviction. To envisage life without difficulties would definitely be an existential absurdity. Faith keeps those who keep the faith - Mother Teresa. When the going gets tough, the tough keeps going - Abraham Lincoln. Thanks for sharing fellow poet. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
