Hostage Poem by Caroline Misner

Hostage

Rating: 1.5

Inside my cell I crawl to bed
and crush the demons in my head;
I pray to God I waken dead.

My hours are betrothed to the sun
and stars that shine when the torture’s done;
inside my cell I crawl to bed

and dream of a world beyond these walls
where your torment rises and freedom falls;
I pray to God I awaken dead.

You burned me once with words unsaid
and laughed at me while I cried and bled
and crushed the demons in my head.

If I loved you once, that love has fled
and rendered me an empty husk;
I pray to God I awaken dead.
