Hot Water Springs Poem by Somanathan Iyer

Hot Water Springs

filled with snow shined white everything
place I don't remember but a mountain it was
blowing was a snow storm sun seen nowhere
trees bore no leaves signs of birds not there
the only animals roaming were red faced monkeys
shivering with cold and unmindful of anything else
they trekked their way through snow covered rocks
journey of theirs stopped near a blue watered pool
emitting vapors the pool was clear like crystal
all the monkeys one by one descended in as in trance
closing their eyes in visible joy remained they for a long
known to me later that a hot water spring was the pool
in that chilly weather in between the high mountains
if not for the magic of nature how such wonders exist
indebted we are to such channels for taking pains
in showing us the nature's splendors and mysteries
