How Can It Be? Poem by Jonathan Goldman a.k.a JGthepoet

How Can It Be?

“How can it be? ” ~ I ask you,
That I feel the flow of blood there,
Running up and down by right leg,
Which was amputated last year.

The Human Brain is intelligent,
Or so we are led to believe,
But Phantom Pain should not exist,
Unless the Brain does us deceive.

By writing down these lines now,
The pain it does subside,
Have I found the solution ~
That I must exercise my Mind?

Pain is felt when the Mind is inactive,
But disappears when doing things,
Writing poetry does soothe the pain,
When inactive ~ that Phantom Pain again begins.

Now if you have Phantom pain,
Pick up a pen and pad,
Write a verse or paragraph,
And that pain will not feel bad.
