How I Feel When You Leave Poem by Troy Clark

How I Feel When You Leave

When your white, graceful wings carry you away
I feel trapped, as if I was in under lighted labyrinth
Each wall is a reflection of you, and each mirrored hand
Outstretched in the form of an arrow
Only pointing to another reflection, then on to another

Endless reflections of your pale face, your heart lifting eyes
I see you smile, I hear your heartbeat, I watch the tears flow down
And around me, I smell you and can feel your presence everywhere
But still your absent, missing from the larger picture but somehow still
Managing to be the frame

I reach out to touch you, to caress your splendor
But halt when I feel the deathly chill of the smooth and hard
Slowly lowing me hand, clenched into fists
I stagger forward and throw my weight at the mirror
Only to watch it crack everywhere and nowhere
Randomly and chaotically, the devils way of karma

I snap back to your eyes, to see that their scared
You almost seem shocked, and slowly your slide
Your hand up the smooth surface, palm out in the form of a high five
Fingers outstretched, to easily allow my fingers to loop though
Just like we used to do, vines entwining and growing
Soon to bear beautiful flowers, pink and green and black.

The barrier shatters and we both step forward
Into each others arms, you silently sobbing
Me smiling sadly, only expecting to feel a fake
To touch cold stone, to the smell of must and taint
But am only greeted with a warm, loving and greedy kiss.
