How Long Poem by John Howard Davies

How Long

How long does it take to slap on some scrape
some lipstick some lotion and jeans
how long will you be with my last cup of tea
and can you stop your rug rats screams

I knock off work early to get home and barely
have time to open my beer
I'm a man who is busy but you're in a tizzy
just pop my socks over here

Are you sure you'll be ready when my mate big Eddy
comes knocking' an ringing' the bell
he ain't got much patience and he might lose his licence
if he's caught drinking and driving like hell

What's that you say, no I can't go away
you see, you just won't cope without me
you'll be all in a muddle and feel a bit hustled
it's best that I stay, you see

So now are you ready 'cos here's my mate Eddy
banging' an kicking' the door
he's shouting out words that sound quite absurd
is she coming with us........are you sure?
