How True Is What They Say? Poem by Elorm Dogbo

How True Is What They Say?

Rating: 4.5

I wonder how true it is
When they say
Opportunities comes not many times
But once.
And in those songs
When people boast
Of one and only true love.
If that is true,
A jilted beau as me
Would forever remain like this.

And how true is it
When people say
Leaders are born and not made.
If it is as true as they say
Why did the tortoise
Win the race
Since nobody believed it would
Ever beat the swift hare.

Is it really true
When they say
Black and a colour as such
Is always inferior
To the colour of the snow.
I don’t believe so
It is either fifty-fifty
Or rather the opposite.

How true is it
When people say
All those sugar-coated words
And deny people of the love
They are ready to idolise.

How true are
The excuses we give
When we unfortunately
Turn out in those
Unfavourable situations.

How true are the promises
Made by politicians?
And the blueprints
Of those castles
Which has its foundation
In the air.
The true ones would lose
Only, and only if
They do not go by this.
