Human Nature Poem by Rickardo BecklesBurrowes

Human Nature

I let you break my heart slowly
The smell of you lingered upon my bed
I realised you didn’t know me
You saw what you wanted instead.
That is the nature of acting while unconscious
There was never enough give and take
There was a connection between us
Born of choice, not mistake
This isn’t what we wanted
Lacking in confidence and trust
Some time after, we leave haunted
Through feeling hurt and pained lust.
There are many definitions of right and wrong
Into my own sense of self I venture
I’ve learnt what it is to be strong
Recognising irony in human nature
