Humanity's Supposed Lament Poem by Shalom Freedman

Humanity's Supposed Lament

HUMANITY'S SUPPOSED LAMENT

At the end of us
Will come another kind of thing
What it will be
Will be nothing for us
For we will not be-

We thought we were the beginning
And the end of it all
But we are only a passing stage
A bridge to what we will never know-

When we go
Whatever there is
Can choose to remember or forget us-

But we will not be the beginning and end
Of everything-

We were not nothing-

We were a stage in the middle
An important stage-

But soon we will be done
Goodbye to us
And all we love-

Goodbye to us
We'll soon be gone.
