Humping Poem by Lawerence Mize, Sr.

Humping

One klick, two klicks,
three klicks...four.
Walking in the bush
can't take no more.

Aid kits heavy
weighing me down.
Want to dump my gear
leave it on the ground.

Five klicks, six klicks,
seven klicks...eight.
Charlie knows we're coming
he sits and waits.

Mortars drop
Screams fill the air.
Run to the wounded
administer care.

Got a Medevac coming
air strikes on the way.
Haven't seen Charles
wonder if he's coming to play.

Nine klicks...ten
reached our objective once again.
Secured the LZ
start to dig in.

Tomorrow we'll move out
do it all again.
