Husband? Soldier? Or Neither? Poem by James McArthur

How is the life of a husband different than that of a solider?
Do you not sacrifice everything in both cases?
Do you not love your brothers-in-arms as much as you do your wife and children?
Is not your country just as important as your family?
Is there a difference in saying 'I do' to your wife, and 'yes sir' to your General?
Do not both strive for the same thing?
So why is it so strange for a husband to go on to be a soldier?
And why is it so strange for a soldier to return to be a husband?
And why is it so strange to choose neither?
