I Am Poem by Leslie Ching

I Am

Rating: 5.0

***Note: This poem was originally written for an English assignment, according to a very concise, pre-arranged template. Personally, I highly dislike the limitations and distinct lack of creativity in this poem, but decided to post it anyway to the suggestion from several friends. Make what you want of it; poetry, like all other forms of art, is subjective, and everyone's opinion of the same piece is always slightly different.

I am a perfectionist, a dreamer, diligence gone awry
I wonder what it feels like to soar in the sky
I hear the regal calls of the fierce untamed
I see the hawk flaunt his skills unashamed
I want to feel his thrill when he circles up high
I am a perfectionist, a dreamer, diligence gone awry

I imagine myself a part of nature’s way
I feel her caring embrace everyday
I touch the morning dew on a new-grown sprout
I worry my head is in the clouds - too far out
I cry for those who lived colourless and died
I am a perfectionist, a dreamer, diligence gone awry

I treasure the gift of poetry and prose
I think life will have its highs and its lows
I dream one day I’ll hold my own book in my hands
I try to meet and exceed life’s constant demands
I hope that some day I will give myself pride
I am a perfectionist, a dreamer, diligence gone awry
