I Am Torn

I'm torn
Between love couplets:
Ben Jonson's 'Drink to Me'
And free rhymes of Collins and Bishop
From the new world.
Or these nimble heart beats from the Far East
Dressed in Haikus
Or the longwinded Homer's Odyssey
Epic tales never ending.
Rumi's endless magic
Or Al Mutanabbi's versifying praise
The Shakespeare of the Near East
We are blessed
To have so many exotic fruits
To choose from the smorgasbord buffet
Displaying the beauty of humanity
In Poetry and Verse in one lifetime
Eluded my grandparents' eyes
But at the end tale of the night
When I am alone making love
To the moon and twinkling stars
I listen to the beats of my heart
And the joy and tears of its art
We all share the same song
But it's the size of the orchestra at play
Sometimes I'm in need of a Mozart's serenade
Other times French horns blasting from Bruckner's symphonies
And when intimate, like chocolate covered strawberries
Brahms' chamber music seduces my melancholy.
When sadness from winters' blues
Duvet covering my soul
Then Duruflé's Requiem eases my pain.
When I am dreaming of love and magic spells
Ballet music from the Swan or Sleeping Beauty
Pluck my strings instantly.
And in my ethereal moments sublime
Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune resonates
Oh Debussy! Where did you get those ears?
When I am courting God's floral garden
Ravel's 'La Valse' one, two, three, my steps,
Finally when alone imprisoned inside my self
Chopin's nocturnes free my will
And back to life I fly high
Soar in tone and purpose drive
To beautiful music in my ears.
My wallet may be fattaly poor
But my life permanently rich!
