I Am Waiting For You Poem by Amitava Sur

I Am Waiting For You

Rating: 5.0

I am waiting for you
==================
The sun, who was drowned into the deep dark night
Is ready to pop up again with it’s morning ray of light.
In the morning mist I am eagerly waiting near the door
To take you in my arms again and hug you once more.

Birds are woken up, chirping shrill -
To leave their nest for the day again.
Buds in the garden being drenched in dews
Are preparing to bloom with the golden sun rays.
Piercing the morning mist you are coming down
I am so eagerly waiting for you.

The vender did come, gave paper and milk
Knocking the door, the maiden came in,
After washing dishes she cleaned the house.
She brought the hot cup of tea and kept it in front.
I was thinking within myself -
After the exchange of morning wishes -
To gather we sit along and will sip the hot tea.
Looking impatiently down the lane beneath the tree
I am so eagerly waiting for you.

The sun has risen, flowers bloomed
The nature has woken up and the earth is on move.
But where is my love, where are you
Time is ticking away - yet I can't find you.
I am so eagerly waiting for you.

This is almost an elaboration of the poem about YEARNING in a narrative format. There is no fulfillment even implied, the repetition of I AM WAITING emphasizes this will not be a poem of wish fulfillment. You are too truthful to let your poem fall into a sentimental trap. No, your poem is fiercely committed to desire, it will not settle for a substitute, its desire is expansive as in a mystical poem by Tagore but it doesn't have his composure at its heart. It is restless, anxious, impatient in the midst of its patient expectations. This is a poem of Character, that will not compromise its higher values. There will be no easy victory, perhaps no victory, only integrity.

Fantastic imagery and silent emotion emanating from this poem. An exquisite repository of waiting for your love, hoping and anticipating, yet knowing the disappointment in your heart she will never come again. Although you can still feel her presence she has gone beyond you. Very beautiful! Touches the heart, Amitava! Thank you for sharing it. RoseAnn

There is a beauty and joy in this waiting! Inspite of the tension it brings, hope the waiting doesn't go in vain! Beautiful description of the Earth waking up after its night long sleep!
