I Can Promise Only This - Poem by Kelly Kurt

You can ask anything of me and I will attempt
You can tell me to smile, when grief is my shadow
You can stick me with pins and require my stillness
Take all my possessions and demand more
You can mandate the improbable and I will comply
But I can promise only this
To do my best

Hello Kelly! i am a new entry into the world of poets in Poem Hunter. Ayman is great fan of your poetry and has most vociferously advocated reading your poems. I just entered your site and am awe struck by the phenomenal amount of writing you have done.375 poems - that's amazing! I do not not know where i should start. But i shall definitely read them and enjoy them too! 'i can promise too, to do my best too' (Report) Reply

Thank you so much, Geeta. Ayman is a good friend and a promising poet. He has been more than kind and encouraging to me. Have fun with poetry, Geeta. I am far away from home right now and can't get on-line much for a while, but I look forward to reading what you post.
    Peace

Hi Kurt, This isa call to resilence as well as a call to patience with resignation. This paradox I think we all can feel and have expierenced that you have elegantly described. (Report) Reply

Back when I was in the single digits, as in during the days when Ravi Shankar tried to convince Customs it was curry he was really smoking, I'd often go to my dad for advice when there was something I wanted to be able to do, but despite all my efforts, I could not....such as Ice Skating, which was the 1 sport I got nothing out of... aside from twisted & blistered ankles...My Dad would always ask me the same question, in his usual calm, 'we got it all under control'' tone...Frankie, would you like to find a way to get water to pour from a stone''? Sure, Dad, but you can't....That's right, Frankie, but if you gave it your very best, than it wasn't to be, ; He'd go on by saying, sometimes in Life we have to play the role of being the Best in trying to be the Bes...and in the end, those that always do that, will find the things they are best at, early in life, and because so, tin the end, they will most likely be very successful, if not the best, which is all you can do in Life...YOUR BEST! Okay, I'm a tad short on verbatim, but that was the gist of what he would say, and your fine above work tapped those times with my Dad, and how up until he passed in '08 at the age of 86, and me closing in on the big 5 0, we would still share stories on self-improvement, achieving work & personal goals, setting challengind yet attainable benchmarks to those goals, etc... Ramble Out! Enjoyed this, Kelly...can't believe I missed this one that apparently every other member on this site didn't! I did my best to get here sooner? ! ~FjR~ (Report) Reply
