I Did This For You Poem by Lauren Humphrey

I Did This For You

I pushed back the tears that dwelled in my eyes day after day.
I ignored that painful beat of my damaged heart.
I faked a smile, pretending to laugh generously.
I did this for you.
No not a single person, but the world as a whole.
I kept away the sadness, sorrow, the despair, and disappointment.
I saw the sun brighter, and the moon shinier.
The grass was greener, and the birds sounded sweeter.
I did this for you.
No not a single person, but the world as a whole.
I ignored the obvious, and you seemed more than oblivious.
The web of lies grew quicker than the clock ticked.
The days took longer, but the weeks became shorter.
I did this for you.
No not a single person, but the world as a whole.
A blind life, and a deaf earth.
Motionless movements, but active activity.
Hiding the truth, but presenting the happiness.
I did this for you.
No not a single person, but the world as a whole.
