I Do Not Know How To Break The Silence Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Do Not Know How To Break The Silence

All irritability is in me
I wish to go out into the world
And be free
Wandering in the light of day-

But Duty and Work say “Stay at home”
And here I am
Struggling against myself
Trying to free myself
Writing as if this might be substitute
For the Sun the Morning the Open Road
The walking into other worlds
Only outdoor eyes can dream.
