I Dream Of You Poem by Arthur Moore

I Dream Of You

Rating: 5.0

I dream of you, I dream of you
And all the times I've talked to you
Professed my love, hoped that you
Would tell me that you love me too
Instead you laugh and lead me on
You never say that I'm the one
But still at night it's what I do
I dream of you, I dream of you

You were lying by a silver stream
Breathing gently, fast asleep
By your side two figures moved
They looked to me like Love and Youth
As you slumbered on that place
I glimpsed a beauty in your face
One that plainly wasn't fake
But seldom seen when you're awake

One angel tired and couldn't wait
To rouse you from your sleepy state
So Love took off and flew away
Leaving Youth to save the day
And then you woke with open eyes
More from anger than surprise
So Youth took fright and left you there
Frightened by your angry glare

I heard a noise and turned around
A hideous beast was on the ground
Approached you slowly, arms outstretched
And in its wake was only death
You tried to flee but something there
Held you in the Spectre's stare
I saw the horror on your face
As you succumbed to his embrace

I heard you cry, I saw you swoon
I tried to help but couldn't move
And in those dreadful arms entwined
Your body changed before my eyes
Old Age had got you in his grasp
Your youth consigned into the past
I wonder now was this a sign
To end my quest to make you mine?
