I Go Slow/ And With Difficulty Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Go Slow/ And With Difficulty

I GO SLOW / AND WITH DIFFICULTY

I go slow
And with difficulty
The bundles weigh me down
Walking is a burden
And yet with the light rain
And the guarding against sliding
I feel a happiness and strength
In just going on-

Old is slow and slow is sad
But against this
The wind and the light rain
And the still walking on
Even in walking with difficulty
An old man can find blessing and happiness.
