I Have Gone To Unknown Shrines Poem by Gert Strydom

I Have Gone To Unknown Shrines

I have gone to unknown shrines
to kneel before Thee
and have sung strange hymns
with strangers that worship Thee
and prayed in places
strange to me.

Yet everywhere was sincerity
and even to this wanderer
blind and deaf
and smitten down,
sweet was Your companionship
among people that others do not regard.

Yet, You brought me back
to the fold where I belong
and I have become
more faithful and strong
in Thy ways
and in humbleness
I wonder who are my brothers
to judge others
when Thy children
are everywhere and at every Christian shrine.
