I Hope This Is Simple Enough! Poem by Nwaga Philip

I Hope This Is Simple Enough!

From Me,
You see,
I love to be a painter
To paint and play with words
For I found that the 'lamest' verses
Could strike the deepest chords
So, here's to you, my jewel
These lines of mine, to you
Rid of the pomp of 'poetry'
And Ah...those BIG words too!
I hope I'll be in each line
Painting my love for you.
And should you need a 'dico'
I'll gladly write one too

You know,
Rhymes have never really held
Any appeal for me
But I'll love to put up with this
To make us this symphony
Giving words to those rhythms
Only these lines could touch
And so don't mind those BIG words
They seem to hide too much
I'll have a word with Okigbo
Just so he'll let me be
I love to be the painter
Who'll paint my love for me

Sunshine,
Another shakespeare in love
Or a brave heart turn cold?
Come walk with me at sunset
To watch the night unfold
Enchant me with that music
Of how you'll wait for me
Let's dance in the stars together
And hum to the beetles' nack
Let's tell a happy-end tale
Of how a poet in love
Escaped the lure of the theatre
And made out with his eve

And so'
I hope that these lines meet you
With my thoughts on your mind
my warmth in your sweet embrace
My pictures by your side
A palm to your heaving chest
A beam on your face
And just in case it doesn't
I hope at least it says
That there is a line for every ONE-
Dumb, banal, bland or stupid
Wise, brave, beautiful, YOU....
Okay... US!

I have Kept It Simple and Short and I hope you find it simple enough!
To HER
