I Know I Loved You Poem by Josh Burnett

I Know I Loved You

It’s time for us to say our goodbye.
I know that it will make you cry.
Just know that I will miss you,
And I’ll stop and think about the time we spent.
It was so nice having you as a friend.
The nights were so long and warm in our arms,
But the pain cuts deeper in my heart.
I don’t know where this life may lead me to,
But I hope that I will get to see you smile again.

We grew apart but at least we didn’t break apart.
We might have stopped loving,
But at least we didn’t start to hate.
We may have went through hell and back,
But at least we tried.
It may not have worked out,
But I’m glad we didn’t break each other’s heart.
We may never again be together like we use to,
But at least I know I love you.

I know I made a promise,
And I said that I would always love you
With my heart crossed,
But I guess you can’t undo what’s broken.
Every now and then I’ll stop,
And you will cross me in my thoughts.
I know it hurts so bad,
But it hurts so much more,
When we’re here lying to each other.
I know there will come another,
Who will love me like you did.

We grew apart but at least we didn’t break apart.
We might have stopped loving,
But at least we didn’t start to hate.
We may have went through hell and back,
But at least we tried.
It may not have worked out,
But I’m glad we didn’t break each other’s heart.
We may never again be together like we use to,
But at least I know I loved you.
