I Let You Down Poem by Trail Fur

I Let You Down

When you needed me
I wasn't there
You told me your story
and about your one minute of glory

You asked me to help
you reach your goal
you had only to make it to your birthday
and so I told you I would pray.

I told you I would do my best
To help you get through
But when you started to drink,
on the inside, I started to shrink

I wanted to help you
but you wouldn't let me through
You told me you were leaving
and I felt you were grieving

Even then, I still tried
I didn't want you to leave
I told you that you shouldn't
and you told me that you couldn't

I was refreshed
I knew I still had a chance
to get you where you wanted to be
and I didn't feel like you wanted to flee.

I worked hard
to help you
but you kept on drinking
and I went to thinking

Then one day, you got caught
drinking on school property
I tried to warn you
you told me you could pull through

I was terrified for you
I was scared I would lose you
but you didn't care about me
and you didn't listen to my plea

you had a meeting with the police
and we didn't talk again
now your in jail
and I let you down.
