I LOVE RED

RED balloon
floating through frames
of Thirties celluloid

dusty RED
dreamtime
black feet dancing

rhode island RED
bustling scratchily
in the poo speckled straw

RED back
hiding in the cupboard
spinning her web

marxist RED
hiding under the bed
spinning in the Fifties

RED shoes
shining, dancing
dancing till death

carmine RED
shining on clowns' noses
audience laughing

RED wine
dancing on drunks' noses
everyone laughing

the RED queen
running faster and faster
growing smaller and smaller

deep RED
roses, richly perfumed
always remind me of you

I LOVE RED

Did you mention red shoes? ? Yesss. I'm still looking for that perfect red pair to replace a long-gone pair of favourite Italian leather courts I wore till they died of old age.
Love the poem, Allie. Red goes so well with black or grey....

Such visual contrasts juxtaposed all in the name of that bold primary hue. Great write Alison. Justine. (Report) Reply

Hey, any poem that mentions the Rhode Island Red and communism and clown noses gets my vote for most eclectic. Fun read!

Poem of the Day

poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
