I Love The Smell Of Fresh Cut Grass And Dog Shit In The Morning Poem by Ted Sheridan

I Love The Smell Of Fresh Cut Grass And Dog Shit In The Morning

Rating: 5.0

my legs ache from walking behind that damn lawnmower
cutting the heads off blades of grass is harder than it sounds
especially at my age.....
then there were those damn gutters and downspouts
clogged full of leaves from winter winds
add to that the pollen sacks from this spring thaw
and no amount of rain was going to flush them clean....
holding that blower on them at arm's length for hours
was like blowing a nose full of snot from a monster
my entire body is rebelling.....
it feels like some prick drove a spike through my feet
and I am permanently affixed to my bathroom floor
where I now pop two aspirin more than the recommended dose
just to keep from feeling the excruciating pain of the aging process....
I want to live to a very old age but die young of heart.......

Love this 'slice of life' neatly packaged into poetic form! The title is especially fab! HG: -) xx

Well, it's better than Napalm... I loved this Ted, I was smiling (sorry, Schadenfreude) all the way through, until that last line which is just gorgeous. Hugs Anna xxx

" my entire body is rebelling..... it feels like some drove a spike through my feet" .....so you have something in common with the " main character" ? of the new testament. i searched " " poems and found yours, among others. i would read more of yours and comment more but i suspect you've 'moved on', perhaps to your anticipated long rest after death. to MyPoemList bri :)

I especially love the title! ! Yes...I know that pain of which you speak...it goes away if I torture myself...after a 5 km hike...it's amazing...I don't feel anything anymore LOL Hugs, Dee

Love it...plastic grass, a long extension lead for the Dyson, and a light-hearted old age, perhaps?

Nicely worded Ted! ! ! I often say, it's not the year model, it's the mileage. C.R.

Ted, you know that title deserves a song on its own! Now, I'm contemplating replacing my hand held/ shoulder strapped leaf blower/sucker/shredder, for a garden vac which resembles a golf trolley. Danny
