I Love You, But... Poem by Marcus McKinley

I Love You, But...

OK...
So you're on the phone
You finish the conversation and you say:

Ok, bye I love you

And you get no reply.

What am I supposed to think?
Maybe, I should try:

Ok, I know you don't love me
but, I love you anyway bye...
Or... maybe I shouldn't even try
And hang up and cry.

Because, deep inside I know it is over
And just forgo her and look for another.
Leaving the kids with their mother.
Even though I love them.
I don't want them to suffer.
All because she, no longer loves me.
This choice is not easy.
It means; missing out on the kids daily.
Unless they live with me.
Unfortunately our court system is bias
And against me.
And will probably attach my wages
So she can live burden free
And not have to work.
While I scrape by in poverty.
Paying child support
Or maybe I should just keep living
In my current misery silently.
At least my kids, I will get to see
And the court can't bankrupt me
So I am on the phone
and the conversation ends
I say:

ok, bye I love you

To no reply.........
