    I loved you once,
    perhaps that love has yet,
    to die down thoroughly within my soul;
    but let it not dismay you any longer,
    I have no wish to cause you any sorrow.

    I loved you wordlessly,
    without a hope,
    by shyness tortured,
    or by jealousy,
    I loved you tenderness and candor,
    and pray God grants you to be loved that way again.

    this is another verson i have seen (Report) Reply

    ...I do not wish to cause you any pain....

    The highest expression of loving other which contradicts the other doctrine regarding love...Painful pleasure. Nice manifesto.......................Pranab k c (Report) Reply

    A love which is not reciprocated can be called true as in I love you truly. But love is only really true when it has been tested in a loving relationship. How many of us have said I love you and then found we did not when the relationship developed? The charm of this poem is in the conditional terms the poet uses when one suspects that the surface indifference he is still in love. (Report) Reply

    this poem hit me like a thousand bullets.. only in true love and pain can we fully open our hearts and wish someone the best, amidst the scars they left.. (Report) Reply

    Perhaps a message of this kind may cause love to be reconsidered though rejected at first tender! Puskin's poem is something to think about even after a thing was rejected! (Report) Reply
