Treasure Island

Mandolyn ...

i'm allright with you

for thousands of years
we craved communion with each other-

millions of bent smiles
and miles of mental meddling
permission peddlers- slamming the door in their face;
there is no race to be won
or trophy waiting in a warehouse

i don't want plastic flowers
where a film of dust has settled
in between each petal, or metal stares
from soldiers who laid a flag in my lap-

there's no air between the past
and present- there's just you
and me

and a crime people see
as they gossip in pews, the news
is trying to shake me awake,
but i'm fastened to your earth
you could shatter me without trying-

i see your ghost and ask it
where the hell you've been...

(for a military man who has passed away,
but still lives in my heart)
