I Missed Work Today Poem by Jay L. Morris

I Missed Work Today

Outside I hear a barking dog
I look and see but cats.
There, where clouds used to be
were piles of formal hats.

I turned on the radio
to drown out the noise
but, it only leaked puddles
of tiny, tiny boys.

I tried the tap
which dripped the blues
then, I combed my hair
with my shoes

I studied the mirror
and shaved my face
But, I ended up bare
in some other place.

Clearly today wasn't turning out
as I'd pictured in my head
so, I opened the door and walking out
dove right back into bed.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem reflects my tendency to judge how any given day will end up from the first few moments in the morning. Sometimes, it just isn't worth getting up.
