Treasure Island

Mandolyn ...

i multi-task hard for you

make me hungry when i just ate
pull a muscle in my mistakes
give me nine reasons to fluctuate
my jeans, my dress, my apple fritters
are burning on the stove-

let's go
somewhere unimportant
to everyone else but us-
make a fuss
about armpits and how they can't laugh
like our livers that quiver
when we take off their hats-

grow a bond with me
that will not choke
when weeds are camping
just behind the mistletoe, you know
i always wanted to kiss a man in
the dark, dark depths
of the world, another realm
where i can spill my guts
and never have to clean it up-

where he says 'get in'
and means it.

control me, breathe me, steal me away
if my hip moves right, make it go left
steer my heart until it loses and says
i quit- i love you- that's that-
love, brat

Poem of the Day

poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Know'st thou not at the fall of the leaf
How the heart feels a languid grief
Laid on it for a covering,
And how sleep seems a goodly thing
