I Must Have Swallowed The Key Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

I Must Have Swallowed The Key

Rating: 4.3

Please do not come back
And say that you love me.
I'm the one that you lack
And your life's been so empty.

There's nothing to recover
For this heart's closed to love.
It's just now you discover
A treasure you had snubbed.

Why unearth the mystique
Of a past that is buried?
And so hurt someone weak
With goodbyes that were hurried?

You longed for my voice
And the feeling of bliss,
But you made the wrong choice
When you left Love like this.

Gone is the arrow that Cupid shot
Padlocked this heart, you see.
Though you pry it open, you cannot-
For I must have swallowed the key.

I see this as the sadness of a lost love and the dilemma of possible reconciliation! Why be hurt twice?

wow, one of your BEST poems; the situation is sad but your tone is NOT weak at all. I loved your words, metaphors and the last 2 lines are my favorite. Well expressed, well described and well written. Absolute simplicity of words and reactions accompanied with supreme complexity of feelings and attitude. Amazing
