I Need You To Stay Poem by Alan Buckholtz

I Need You To Stay

How should I act
you’re watching
do I need to care
you’re listening
do I need to share
each thought that I have
will you see
each thing that I do
will you warn me
if I step the wrong way
will you chastise me
if you don’t like what I say
will I ever not have
challenges from you
will it always be me
who decides what I do
are you pulling the strings
are you my puppeteer
are you commanding the things
that I’m doing here
in your mortality
I needed to please
I brought you flowers
you accepted with ease
and now that you’re gone
you won’t go away
you know that I need you
to stay
